The artist is a father of a military man, Oleksandr, who died in September 2014. Oleksandr's unit was encircled and engaged in battle - with the overwhelming forces of the enemy, occupying a circular defense. While repelling the attack, Oleksandr received a fatal injury. In this painting, the butterfly becomes a visual representation of hope, transformation, and the belief in the eternal nature of the soul. Despite facing mortal wounds, the soul remains eternal is a reflection on the nature of loss and the enduring spirit of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
